CIP Program
General Registration Information


To register in the CIP program, you must become a member of your local Institute, which includes membership in the national body at no additional cost. There are no restrictions on membership and the program has no academic prerequisites.

In-class courses
 
Provision is made for three class semesters:
 
1st semester: September for December exams
2nd semester: January for April exams
3rd semester: April for July exams

Registration for an in-class program, a student

  • registers for the course at the Community College or at the local Institute or Chapter;

  • purchases the current course text from the College bookstore or from the local Institute;

  • becomes a member of the local Institute;

  • completes an Institute Registration Form and pays an examination fee to The Insurance Institute of Canada before the appropriate deadline. This fee may be in addition to monies paid to the College for tuition services. Payment of this fee is the responsibility of the student. Payment may be made by cheque, VISA, MasterCard, or American Express.

All students should take C11 first (it must be one of the first four courses). C16 should be taken last (it must be one of the last three courses).

Students who have completed C17 Claims 1 may not enrol in C110 Essentials of Loss Adjusting.

Distance Learning
 
There are three distance-learning semesters:

December Examinations
Register:
May 1 - July 31 : Reduced Rate
Aug 1 - Sept 30 : Standard Rate

Withdrawal/Transfer deadline: September 30
Test Papers received at the Institute by September 30

April Examinations
Register:
Sept 1 - Nov 30 : Reduced Rate
Dec 1 - Jan 31 : Standard Rate

Withdrawal/Transfer deadline: January 31
Test Papers received at the Institute by January 31

July Examinations
Register:
Dec 1 - Feb 28 : Reduced Rate
Mar 1 - Apr 30 : Standard Rate

Withdrawal/Transfer deadline: May 31
Test Papers received at the Institute by April 30


To register as a distance-learning student,

  • apply to your local Institute for membership, which is mandatory, prior to writing the examination;

  • check exam regulations to ensure that (a) you have met the course pre-requisites and (b) there is no conflict with the final exams. See the Exam Schedule;

  • complete an Institute Registration Form, attach payment and return to The Insurance Institute of Canada.

Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for delivery of the course materials.

Examination Conflicts
 
Students are cautioned to check the Exam Schedule to ensure that they do not register in the same semester for two courses for which the examinations are held at the same time. Students who register for both distance-learning courses and in-class courses should be particularly careful on this point.
