Advantages .....

• Practical & theoretical knowledge combined
• Graduates require less training
• Graduates more capable in their specialty
• Improved designation elevates the industry
Effective
September 2004, the curriculum will require students to complete 10 courses
to graduate (5 mandatory, 3 applied professional, and 2 elective). Currently,
the program requires students to complete 12 courses (6 mandatory and 6 elective).
The
CIP Program has been enhanced with new texts and teaching aids, but the 9
applied professional courses, of which any 3 are required, represent the greatest
advancement. These applied professional courses will be offered at 3 levels
of study, in each of 3 categories: agent & broker, underwriter and loss
adjuster.
Students
may fulfill their 3 applied professional subject requirements by taking courses
at any level within any stream. It is, however, our strong recommendation
that subjects be selected according to an individual's future career goals
and job requirements. Students currently enrolled are being individually contacted
with regard to the courses they must complete to graduate under the new program.
This
has been a significant undertaking on behalf of the entire industry, but one
that we feel is vital in keeping the CIP designation relevant and meaningful
to our business today and tomorrow. And while the cost of any one course will
have increased to more properly reflect the professional level of these courses,
the overall cost for an individual to complete the program will have increased
only marginally. We are confident that graduates of the new curriculum will
not only be more technically capable, but also be more functionally competent
in their fields of work and of even greater value to your organization.
